When we think about mobile robots , most people imagine clean factory floors and perfect lighting conditions.

But there's a world outside with uneven terrain, rain, fog, mixed indoor–outdoor environments (what can kill sensing capabilities).

Outdoor navigation is a huge opportunity but it is one of the toughest frontiers for mobile robots.

Today, several technologies are shaping the field:

RTK-GNSS, 2D LiDAR, 3D LiDAR, IMUs, and visual SLAM.

Each has its strengths, and its limitations.

➡️ GNSS provides absolute positioning in open yards but struggles near walls.

➡️ 2D LiDAR is reliable indoors, but blind to height.

➡️ 3D LiDAR, supported by RTK-GNSS and IMUs, is now proving to be the most balanced option for all-weather, all-surface navigation.

Weather, lighting, vibrations, and even the transition between indoor and outdoor areas are real challenges that we face every day.

And yet, the technology is now ready, thanks to sensor fusion, advanced fleet management systems, and new localization algorithms that make autonomy reliable in complex outdoor spaces.

That’s exactly what we’ve discused in our  joint webinar with GIM Robotics and Navitec Systems.

We’ve gone deep into:

1️⃣ The current state of outdoor navigation technologies

2️⃣ Real-world use cases from ports, airports, and construction sites

3️⃣ How to design reliable systems for large, open environments

If your company is considering developing or deploying outdoor mobile robots, this session will help you understand which navigation methods really work.

Herr José Luis Peralta

Dr. José Luis Peralta is the Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of GIM Robotics, a Finnish company specializing in advanced autonomy for mobile machines.

With a PhD in Robotics and Automation and over 20 years of experience at the intersection of robotics research and industrial applications, José Luis has dedicated his career to transforming how machines perceive, navigate, and interact with complex environments.

Since founding GIM Robotics in 2014, he has led the company's technological strategy and R&D direction, helping OEMs and organizations across industries accelerate their automation journeys.

Before launching GIM Robotics, José Luis spent several years as a Research Scientist at Aalto University's Center of Excellence in Generic Intelligent Machines, where he worked on innovative motion systems and control architectures for intelligent mobile platforms.

At the webinar, José Luis will share his insights on how 3D LiDAR technologies and perception-driven autonomy are enabling safer, more reliable navigation for outdoor mobile robots — bridging the gap between academic research and real-world deployment.

Herr Peter Secor

SVP Global Business Development, Navitec Systems

Peter Secor is a seasoned business development and marketing leader in the mobile robotics industry, currently serving as Senior Vice President of Global Business Development at Navitec Systems.

He is responsible for expanding Navitec's global presence and driving commercial growth across key markets, helping manufacturers and integrators deploy advanced navigation and fleet management solutions for autonomous mobile robots.

With more than two decades of experience in robotics, AI, and industrial automation, Peter brings a rare blend of technical insight and commercial acumen.

At the webinar, Peter will share his perspective on the growing demand of reliable outdoor navigation systems, highlighting how perception and localization technologies are reshaping the capabilities of mobile robots in complex, real-world environments.
