Mr Aaron Rothmeyer

As Market Product Manager for Distance & Ranging Products, I'm responsible for managing the incomparable line of distance & laser ranging (LIDAR) products at SICK, Inc. This includes spreading knowledge of these products through literature and social media initiatives as well as attending customer visits and overseeing field installs. When new products are ready for market, I drive the U.S. launch of our exciting new advances in laser ranging technology. I also analyze market trends to find growing markets and adapt my products to match their needs. In completing these tasks, I contribute to the overall success of the SICK automatic identification (Auto ID) team.

Agenda

In this recorded seesion, Aaron Rothmeyer (Sick, Inc. Market Product Manager II for Distance & Ranging Products) explained to us the different LiDAR technologies and  products available in the market for the mobile robot industry.

1. Brief LiDAR Overview (History and Concepts)

How does LiDAR technology work and how did we get to today?

2. Sensorized LiDAR (TiM 100/150 and TiM 240)

Globally, the ecommerce sector continues to experience strong growth. This has also led to an increase in demand for automation solutions to support the growing logistics infrastructure and the transport of goods and products.

TiM1xx is the starter model of the 2D LiDAR sensors from SICK and opens up new application possibilities with its compact design.  It is a small, simple, cost-effective laser scanner for a wide variety of area-monitoring applications.

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are handling more logistics tasks of varying kinds. Simultaneously, the latest AMR designs are becoming increasingly compact and streamlined. Accordingly, 2D LiDAR sensor solutions need to keep pace with these new types of applications in terms of functionality, size, and price. With the TiM2xx series, SICK is launching a sensor that excels at all three.

3. Multilayer "3D" (MRS1000)

More layers open up more perspectives. Take your AGV outdoor!

Sometimes, mobile robots must also be able to distinguish between different objects depending on their importance for collision warning purposes. In order to make this distinction, it is essential that objects are detected in terms of volume.

The MRS1000 is designed in such a flexible and rugged manner that it can operate in many different fields of application. With an enclosure rating of IP67, its housing is not only able to withstand dirt and unfavorable weather conditions, but also temperature fluctuations ranging between -30 and +50 degrees Celsius.

4. Solid-State LiDAR (Visionary-T DT)

Automated guided vehicles must be able to react flexibly to obstacles in difficult situations and light conditions to ensure smooth 24/7 operation with a high degree of productivity.

Versatile yet rugged sensors are essential for this. The intelligent Visionary-T DT 3D vision camera from SICK is a mobile 3D vision system which optimally fulfills these requirements.
